The judgment from Judge Brady O'Callaghan is in favor of the school board.
This legal fight stems from the board's decision to only interview one candidate to be the next Superintendent of Schools. The interview of Keith Burton was held during an open board meeting last week.
The judge says claims that the school board's actions were arbitrary and capricious were not proven during the hearing in this case.
"The court cannot find that the board acted arbitrarily or capriciously."
Judge O'Callaghan issued this ruling late Friday:
"It is hereby ordered a judged and decreed that the petition of Roy Cary, The People's Promise Youth Division and All Streets All People for an injunction is hereby denied."
The order further states:
"Any action by the court would simply be judicial overreach and a substitution of the court's judgment for that of the elected school board."
This opens the door for the Caddo School Board to move forward with plans to hire a new Superintendent. Keith Burton is currently the Chief Academic Officer for Caddo Schools and he outlined his plan for improvements before the Board last week.
The Board is expected to move toward entering contract negotiations with Burton. But some members have expressed an interest in interviewing some of the other 5 finalists. But nothing has been proposed yet to move in that direction. And Board Member Jasmine Green tells KEEL News she understands a couple of the finalists have already removed their names from consideration.
