At approximately 1:00 a.m. on January 31, 2011, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a reported armed robbery at the Pizza Hut in the 3900 block of Greenwood Road.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the restaurant’s assistant manager, identified as 47 year old Rodney Franklin, who told them that he had been robbed at gunpoint. Franklin further advised officers that the suspect, who he described as a black male, stole the business’ night deposit.

Detectives began their investigation and, based on information gathered during the course of this inquiry, learned the victim had not been truthful with the responding officers and, in fact, no robbery had occurred.  Investigators believe Franklin stole the night deposit and fabricated the robbery tale in an effort to cover his tracks.  Detectives subsequently charged Franklin, of the 8100 block of Pines Road in Shreveport, with one count each of felony theft and filing a false public record.  He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
