According to the New York Times, Louisiana has the highest amount of residenst born in-state, in the United States. From a demographic perspective it shows that the Pelican state is the least diverse of any state in the country

.

With 79 percent of the current population native born, another 10 percent were born in southern states. Demographer Elliot Stonecipher told the Louisiana Radio Network that the reason for the high percentage of natives is due to the fact that Louisiana has large out-migration numbers.

"I mean you end up with new moving in, a lot of people who were relatively never moved out, and that's what raises the number of people that are native born".
