National Nurses Day – How Does Louisiana Stack Up?
With today being National Nurses Day, we'd like to shout out all of the hard working men and women in the nursing field. We appreciate all you do to make sure we're happy and healthy, and if we're being realistic, every day should be Nurse's Day considering you're who's there when we come into the world and you're also there when we make our exits in a lot of cases.
The purpose of National Nurses Day is to raise awareness about the important role nurses play in society. It also marks the beginning of National Nurses Week which culminates on Florence Nightingale's birthday May 12th. So if you see someone out in scrubs, make sure you tell them thank you for all that they do.
While Shreveport/Bossier was ranked by US News in 2009 as the 8th best place in the country to find a job, Louisiana isn't the best to place to live if you're in the field of nursing... Despite Willis Knighton and Christus Schumpert Health Systems being listed as two of the top six employers in Shreveport.
Unfortunately, Louisiana is ranked as the 2nd worse state to work in for nurses according to Wallethub.com. This is disappointing considering so many of our friends and family members are nurses. Heck, in my family alone, my mom is retired RN, my brother and sister-in-law are both nurses and so is my nephew.
