Energy Products and Services Corporation of Tampa, Florida has won the bid to move the structure from the courthouse property to the Battle of Pleasant Hill battlefield site, which is privately owned property in DeSoto Parish.

Caddo Parish will pay the Florida company $782,000 to move the massive structure.

The contractor takes responsibility for any damage to the monument:

The monument was put in front of the courthouse back in 1906. It has been at the center of a feud between the parish and the owners of the monument — the Shreveport chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

3 years ago, the courts ruled the parish had the right to move the monument from parish owned property.

The contract calls for removal of the monument by the end of 2022.

Parish staffers will be meeting with the contractor to set up a timeline for moving the structure. A box was erected around the monument a few years ago to protect it from vandals causing damage.
