Caddo Parish Planning to Sell Surplus Trucks and Buses

You will soon have a chance to buy some surplus property from Caddo Parish. The Commission is set to vote on an ordinance this week that would declare a list of parish-owned equipment as surplus property. This clears the way to sell this equipment at auction later this year.

What Kind of Equipment is Being Sold

This list includes trucks, SUV's, tractors, dump trucks, several school buses and so much more.

Equipment No Longer Needed by the Parish

This ordinance declares that the parish no longer needs this equipment, but it still has some value and should be sold. Some of the equipment is considered obsolete, but it might be useful to someone who needs parts or older items.

Under Louisiana law, local governments are permitted to dispose of surplus supplies, materials and equipment. Parish officials say selling the property at a public auction will allow the parish to remove unneeded assets while potentially generating revenue from equipment that is no longer serving a public purpose.

Once the auction date is set, all of this equipment will be sold "as is" basis, with no warranty of title or other guarantees.

Sale Could Be Held After Ordinance Takes Effect

The ordinance does not establish a specific auction date.

Instead, it authorizes the Caddo Parish Administrator, or her designee, to complete all contracts and documents necessary to conduct the sale once the ordinance is in effect. Because the ordinance states it becomes effective immediately upon adoption by the Caddo Parish Commission, the parish could begin arranging the public auction as soon as the measure is approved.
