Driving in Louisiana is pretty dangerous, and for various reasons. The roads are constantly in a state of disrepair, there is a large number of uninsured drivers on the roads, and the weather conditions aren't always the best.

There's a lot to be worried about on Louisiana roads that aren't even things you can control. But there are some things you could consider before you hit the roads to make your trip safer. Things like the most dangerous times, days, and months to be out on the roads.

Like the difference between driving during 8am and 8pm, one will be more dangerous than the other. Driving at 8pm is statistically more dangerous, because it would generally be considered nighttime driving. The National Safety Council says this about driving at night:

"Night driving is dangerous because, even with high-beam headlights on, visibility is limited to about 500 feet (250 feet for normal headlights) creating less time to react to something in the road, especially when driving at higher speeds."

Then you can consider the day of the week you're driving into the equation. Because there are actually major differences in the day of the week you're on the road. If there was just a difference of one or two fatal accidents between the days of the week, it probably wouldn't be noteworthy. But there's actually a difference of over 2,000 crash related fatalities between a Tuesday and Saturday according to research put together by USA Today.

As far as Louisiana's specifics go, Georgia-based attorneys at Bader Scott gathered information from the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration (NHTSA) to determine the most fatal time, day, and month to be on the road in each of the 50 states. Here's what it says about Louisiana:

Road Fatalities: Most Dangerous Time, Day, and Month by State - Louisiana

Deadliest Time on the Road: 8-9pm
Deadliest Day of the Week on the Road: Saturday
