Louisiana Sports Fans Are The Second Most Stressed In The US
Do you think Louisiana sports fans are stressing about New Orleans Pelicans games? Probably not. But according to a new study, Louisiana sports fans are the second most stressed in the nation.
This new research was done by the team from the sports platform The Grueling Truth. They looked at information gathered from 1,249 sports fans from across the United States. These fans were asked about their favorite sports, the level of stress they experience during various activities, and how they manage stress while watching a crucial sports event. It wasn't all just men either, the split in sexes among fans was pretty even, with 60% male, 39% female, and 1% identified as non-binary among the fans. The average age of the respondents was 43.8 years.
The research found some interesting trends among sports fans, like the fact that fans get more stressed out over big games in baseball than in football. Or that over 30% of fans admit to yelling at the TV or radio while a big game is on.
When you drill down on a state-by-state basis in the research, things get a little weird.
Sports fans in Louisiana don't have as many professional teams as other states. There's no MLB or NHL team here, so you really have the New Orleans Saints, New Orleans Pelicans, or you have to adopt an out-of-state team like the Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers to cheer for. But where Louisiana is short on pro teams, it more than makes up for it in college sports.
LSU is a mecca for sports excellence. With National Championships regularly in a variety of sports. As well as other schools having National Championships (Louisiana Tech and Tulane), Hall of Fame players, and top draft picks in their sports. Louisiana has a lot of top level athletics in all parts of the state.
So its no wonder Louisiana residents are invested as sports fans. But are they invested enough to be one of the most stressed fanbases in the nation? According to the research...yes.
Louisiana ranks #2 in the country based on the study, with a stress index of 7/10 for fans. This is behind #1, which is a little weird...being that it's Idaho.
Yes, Idaho ranks as #1 with a stress index of 7.5/10 according to the survey. This is very interesting, because its a state with even less pro teams than Louisiana. Not only that, but Idaho only has one prominent college sports program in Boise State. But Boise State doesn't even offer baseball or men's soccer at the school.
Other regional states ranked pretty low compared to Louisiana. With Texas at 4.9, Arkansas at 5.4, Mississippi at 5.8, and Alabama at 5.9...all out of 10.
