Louisiana Ranks High on STD Report
In a 2018 STD surveillance report, Louisiana made it in to the top 10 highest cases in every category. Of the 4 STDs mentioned in the report, which include chlamydia, gonorrhea, primary secondary syphilis, and congenital syphilis Louisiana ranked in the top 5 in 3. The spike in cases is attributed to less use of protection during sexual activity.
Doctors urge people to use some form of medically approved protection when engaging in anything sexual. The STDs listed in the study can all be prevented by using a prophylactic condom.
On the list of cases of Chlamydia by state at the CDC website, Louisiana ranked number 2 out of all states. Coming in 2nd to Alaska in cases.
In cases of Gonorrhea by state, we came in at number 5, just under South Carolina and Alabama.
We finally broke out of the top 5 in cases of Primary Secondary Syphilis. Louisiana was ranked number 7 in most cases.
And, we came in at a close number 3, behind Texas and Nevada in cases of Congenital Syphilis.
