It's always the news article that makes my stomach turn and I have to quit scrolling. The heat has mercy and now a two-year-old boy from Iberia Parish is dead. According to KTBS 3 the child died after he was left alone in a vehicle for over 2 hours.

The 2-year-old boy was pronounced dead on the scene by the parish coroner and the death happened sometime on Monday during the day. We don't have much information to go off of since the child's death is currently being investigated.

It's not just devastating news in Louisiana, this toddler's death is the 4th hot car death nationwide. According to NoHeatStroke.org we see so many hot car deaths every year. What's crazy is that every single death could have been prevented. According to the website"886 children have died due to Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke (PVH) since 1998.".

The circumstances that lead to Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke are devastating. Out of all the 800 plus deaths, these are the circumstances that lead to the children's death.
52.9%  were forgotten by caregivers. 25.6% gained access on their own and locked themselves or trapped themselves in a vehicle. 19.7% of the children were knowingly left by caregivers, only 1.7% of the deaths were listed as unknown circumstances.

Did you know that a child's body temperature rises up to 5 times faster than an adult's? So if you think leaving a child in a hot car for several minutes isn't that big of a deal, think again. A child's temperature can rise quickly and the child can die in a matter of minutes.
