Louisiana Among The Worst States For Working Dads
Louisiana is ranking pretty low on the totem for working dads according to Wallethub. Back in the 60s, 75% of American Families relied on the single income of the man of the house. The Dad would spend much of the week at work while the mom stayed at home with the kids. Now, two-thirds of households depend on at least two incomes and the father is rarely the primary breadwinner anymore.
Fatherhood is still not an easy gig. And a central role in fatherhood is still providing a life for his family. Over 93 percent of dads with kids younger than 18 were employed in 2019. However, some states are much better for working dads with advantages in better economies and qualities of life.
WalletHub compared the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The data set ranges from average length of work day for males to child-care costs to share of men in good or better health. Louisiana ranked 49th on the list for overall heath and economic status reasons, as well as work/life balance, and child care.
