Louisiana does not have to send every history lover to Philadelphia to get a close look at one of America’s most recognizable symbols. As the country prepares to mark America 250 in 2026, attention is growing around full-size Liberty Bell replicas scattered across the nation, including one right here in Louisiana.

A Patriotic Bell With a Louisiana Address

Louisiana’s U.S. Treasury Liberty Bell replica is located in Baton Rouge in front of the old Arsenal Museum at 900 Capitol Lake Drive. According to the Liberty Bell replica project maintained by bell hunter Tom Campbell, Louisiana’s bell is serial number 39, sits outdoors, and can be visited at any time.

That gives Louisiana families a simple road trip option for a history stop that feels timely. From Shreveport, it is not exactly around the corner, but it is a lot closer than Philadelphia.

Why So Many States Have a Liberty Bell

The story goes back to 1950, when the U.S. Treasury Department commissioned replica Liberty Bells for a “Save Your Independence” savings bond drive. The bells were sent to states and territories as patriotic showpieces. They were made to look like the original, complete with the famous crack.

The Associated Press recently reported that these replicas are getting renewed interest as America’s 250th birthday approaches. Some have been restored. Some are hard to find. A few are not currently available to the public. The Washington, D.C. replica is reportedly missing.

That has created a small but determined group of “bell hunters” who try to visit as many of the replicas as possible.

Why Louisiana’s Bell Matters

The Liberty Bell has always been a complicated symbol. It represents freedom, but it is also cracked. Campbell told the AP that “a cracked bell is the symbol of the United States” and called it a fitting symbol of “an imperfect union.”

That idea may be part of why the replicas still draw interest. They are not only tourist stops. They are reminders that American history is worth remembering honestly, with gratitude and humility.

For Louisiana families planning short trips in 2026, Baton Rouge offers more than government buildings and museums. The state’s Liberty Bell replica gives parents, teachers, and grandparents an easy way to connect America’s 250th birthday to something tangible.

It may not be the original bell, but it still tells a story worth hearing.
