Not everyone is allowed to live in military housing on Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. The same goes for dogs ...

If you're active duty military, you can live on Fort Bliss as long as a proper home is available. Civilians can even live on (some) military bases if certain conditions are met.

Pets are also allowed but, like people, only certain ones get the green light.

I can say, and I think just about everyone ... whether they have served or not ... would agree with me, that the military is big on rules and way strict about enforcing them.

It's not just people that are subject to military rules and dogs face a double standard in the eyes of Uncle Sam and his policies.

The military uses dogs extensively for combat, security, search and other duties. Any soldier ... regardless of race, color, creed, MOS, sex, etc ... can live on a military post. With dogs, it's different.

As of 2022, dogs belonging to the following breeds are prohibited at Fort Bliss: all Pit Bulls, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Akitas, American Bulldog, Alaskan Malamute, all Mastiff breeds, Chow Chow, Dobermann, Presa Canario, full or mixed-breed Rottweilers, wolves and wolf hybrids. If you have questions or need more information on this policy, please contact the Veterinary Treatment Facility 915-742-2266 or the Family Homes Housing Office 915-564-0795. - installations.militaryonesource.mil

Bottom line, all dogs may go to Heaven but they don't all go to Fort Bliss. If you're looking for housing there, make sure Fido can come too!
