No one does Mardi Gras like we do here in Louisiana and when it comes to King Cakes, Food Network says once again that this Shreveport, LA bakery makes and ships one of the best in the country!

What is a King Cake?

NewOrleans.com describes a king cake as a confection that 'comes from the Biblical story of the three kings who bring gifts to Baby Jesus. A blend of coffee cake and cinnamon roll, king cake is usually iced in yellow, green, and purple – the colors of Mardi Gras -- and is frequently packed with fruit fillings and decadent cream cheeses. Hidden within these season sweets also lie a special surprise: a plastic king cake baby to continue the fun.' Maybe it's because I associate eating king cake with all things Mardi Gras, but to me, it's a decadent delicacy that should be available year-round!

It seems like in the past couple of years, Mardi Gras has become more of a 'thing' in other parts of the country. Which is fine by us as long as they respect our long-standing history and traditions surrounding the holiday. With that being said, there's a growing market for bakeries to ship king cakes to other parts of the country to former Louisiana residents who want a taste of home and others who are just curious. With that in mind, Food Network did the leg work to determine which bakeries ship the best king cakes and one of our local bakeries made the list for the second year in a row... Lilah's Bakery!

It's true! If you haven't had a Lilah's King Cake, you're missing out. Locally, you can pick one up at their store, 1718 Centenary Boulevard in Shreveport, and at 20 other local retailers. For those who are a little further out or just want that sugary goodness shipped, hit them up on their website. Just in case you were wondering, we recommend you try them all!
