It's been a little while since the Shreveport Mudbugs hockey team has played on the ice on George's Pond inside the historic Hirsch Coliseum. But they're back this weekend after their long State Fair break.

The team will be making a big return as well, when they launch straight into their 8th annual Military Appreciation Weekend.

If you have never had the privilege to enjoy a Shreveport Mudbugs hockey game, you know that two of the biggest features of a Mudbugs' home game are the National Anthem, and Hometown Heroes. During the Hometown Heroes celebration, a local military servicemember or vet is honored during the game. Its one of the ways the Mudbugs organization gives back to military members.

This weekend will step that celebration up a notch. To celebrate Military Appreciation Weekend, the team will have multiple activities and additions for the weekend. Including a "big flag" patriotic pre-game show, specialty jerseys, tributes to all military branches, limited military appreciated hoodies, mystery pucks, retired number jersey raffles, and a post game skate with the players.

Yes, we did mention specialty jerseys.

One of the best ways the Mudbugs franchise shows off their creative style is through their specialty jerseys. From their Christmas jerseys to Mardi Gras, geeky jerseys to St. Patrick's Day, the team has had some amazing sweaters. But they might save their best work for honoring the military.

Come cheer on the Mudbugs, and celebrate Military Appreciation Weekend Friday and Saturday night. Games both night start at 7:11pm, and you can get tickets right here.
