Only in North Louisiana Would You Hear Nicknames Like These
On occasion I need a little help around my place and when I do, I simply call Frog. He worked for my father-in-law for years, and now my brothers-in-law and I keep him busy most weekends.

As we raked leaves early one crisp, fall morning, I asked him how he got the nickname "Frog." He looked straight into my eyes and said, "You don't know my last name do you?" I quickly told him "no." Frog laughed and said, "It's Hopper." Well, that explained everything about the nickname.
Here in North Louisiana, nicknames mean a lot. They are terms of endearment. In some cases people who might have known a person for years, yet have no idea what their real name might be. Only the nickname.
Of course, you can't have any conversation about nicknames without mentioning all the nicknames that Lynn Beaty has handed out to friends and family all over the South.
One of those nicknames belongs to his son, Chris. That's what his teachers in the Haughton area schools knew him as. But Chris was ultimately replaced with the nickname, Flea.

So, where does a guy get a nickname like "Flea?" According to him, as a child he was never one to sit still for long and because of all his "hopping around", his Dad bestowed that moniker "Flea" on him and it's stuck with him for most of his life.
But "Flea" wasn't the first nickname Lynn hung on his kids. Flea's brother's nickname is "Boogie" or "Boog" for short. His real name is Travis and one can only imagine what he had to do to earn the alter ego of Boog!
Over the years I've met "Potted Meat", a couple of "Moon Pies" and several nicknames that probably shouldn't be repeated in mixed company. Of course, we're all familiar with Ron White's nickname "Tater Salad"
However, those names are all unique to those individuals, but nowhere near what we'd deem popular, so, we've listed for you the "Top Ten Nicknames We've Got in North Louisiana?"
Take a look and I'm betting you know at least three or four of these.
