🐊 The Hit Show 'Swamp People' Has Been on the air since 2010

🐊 Star and Louisiana Native Troy Landry Was Cited for Hunting Violations

🐊 Each violation has a stiff fine & potential jail time attached

When people from outside of Louisiana think about the 'Bayou State', generally the first thing that pops to mind is the long running reality show 'Swamp People'. Which, when you think about it, makes sense. For the average American, that show is probably the only connection they have whatsoever to Louisiana. And, frankly, the show occasionally  shows some of the more fascinating parts of Louisiana culture.

And the show has been a HUGE hit for the History Channel. It's been on the air for 15 years, spawned numerous spinoff shows, video games...the whole nine.

I say all that to say this: When someone from that show does something, good or bad, it typically makes national news. In their own way, they are huge celebrities that represent a culture and area that most of the country know little to nothing about.

Which is why somebody getting citied for a hunting violation in Louisiana is making nation news.

Troy Landry Recently Citied For Hunting Violation in Louisiana

I literally just Googled 'Louisiana News' to see what was going on today, and the page was filled with stories about Troy Landry - the star of the hit show Swamp People. At first, I thought maybe he had a medical issue or the show got cancelled or something. It was a story covered by Yahoo, USA Today, People Magazine, etc..

Nope, it turns out he got caught up in Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries sting operation. According to several sources reporting on the matter, here's what happened.

Allegedly, LDWF agents got a tip that someone was illegal hunting alligators in St. Mary's Parish. These agents set up a sting and were running surveillance on lines they discovered in the area.

Troy and his crew roll up and get stopped by agents. After a little back and forth, that Landry did have permission to hunt on the property. However, after a little digging, it was discovered that he didn't have the proper tags to hunt in that particular area.

Landry allegedly told agents he didn't harvest any gators from the property, but changed his tune when informed that agents had been watching the area. Landry then admitted that he did take one gator from the area and cut a line that had a dead gator on it.

What Penalties Will Landry Face for Louisiana Hunting Violations?

According to reports, Landry received two citations during the incident. One for an improperly tagged alligator and one for cutting a dead alligator from the line. Each citation carries a potential penalty of up to a $950 fine & 120 days in jail. It's also being reported that his boat were seized in connection with the violations.

Will this have an impact on Landry's business or him appearing on the show moving forward? Only time will tell. When contacted by reporters for a statement, he said he had "nothing to say" and added that he also got a speeding ticket recently.
