How Did Byrd Soccer End Up On ESPN Last Night
Last night, Oregon State baseball beat Auburn 4-3 in the second game of the Corvallis Super Regional. That tied the series 1-1, and forced a Game 3 to determine the winner of the Super Regional. All of that makes a ton of sense, it's college baseball. But how did Shreveport's Byrd High School make an appearance during that game?
Was there a starting pitcher from Shreveport? Maybe a leadoff hitter who graduated from Byrd? Nope, none of that. The reason Byrd made it onto the screen during the ESPN broadcast was thanks to former MLB player, and 318 guy, Todd Walker.
Todd was in the booth on the ESPN call, and he happened to be sporting his Byrd Soccer jacket. That jacket, and Byrd logo, got a lot of screen time throughout the game, giving Byrd a little national love on the main ESPN network.
So why did Todd (and Airline graduate) end up with a Byrd jacket on? Well, his kids went to Byrd. In fact, its likely because of his daughter Riley that he's still rocking that jacket on national TV.
Riley was a standout on the Byrd, even winning First Team Overall MVP All District her senior year at Byrd. Which means a proud dad got to show a little love to his daughter on the national spotlight, without totally embarrassing her at the same time. Well done Todd Walker.
