SHREVEPORT, LA – It’s spooky season. Halloween is right around the corner and you are probably looking for some scary movies to watch this season.

A quick check of horror movies shows Louisiana has some bragging rights. The Bayou State is home to one of the more popular places to make frightening movies.

The experts at Giggster analyzed the number of horror films produced across various cities and states to reveal the spookiest filming locations.

According to the Giggster study, New Orleans is #5 on the list with 39.55 horror films produced per 100,000 residents.

Some of the horror movies filmed in New Orleans include Skeleton Key which is about a nurse who works in a New Orleans plantation home that has quite a dark past.

Cat People, the 1982 version was filmed in New Orleans locations including Audubon Zoo.

The 1994 movie Interview with the Vampire was filmed in New Orleans with a star studded cast including Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas and Tom Cruise.

The 2023 film Haunted Mansion was filmed in New Orleans. Some of the filming locations include:

  • The Buckner Mansion: Located at 1410 Jackson Avenue, this Garden District home was used for exterior shots of the haunted mansion
  • Jackson Square: An engagement takes place in the middle of Jackson Square.
  • Lafayette Cemetery No. 2: A jazz funeral is held in the cemetery.

The Hatchet is the story of tourists visiting New Orleans for a swamp tour and they find themselves stranded in the wilderness.
