Highland Jazz & Blues Fest Will Be Here Before You Know It
When one talks about "quality of life" in an area, it refers to places and events that make that area different, special, and better. The Shreveport Symphony, Shreveport Little Theatre, The American Rose Center and The Norton Art Gallery are all things Shreveport-Bossier can be very proud of. Events like The Red River Revel, Mudbug Madness, and another favorite, the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival, are events that add to the quality of life in Shreveport Bossier.
The Highland Jazz and Blues Festival first kicked-off in 2003, and has grown from a few local bands with 500-1000 people attending, to an event featuring 2 stages, 9 bands, and over 10,000 music fans all gathering in Columbia Park in Shreveport's Highland neighborhood.
This year's festival promises to be even bigger and better than ever. Entering it's 18th year, the festival will be Saturday, September 17th, and will feature local musicians as well as regional and state favorites. Just some of the artists scheduled include The Blues Trippers, Heavy is the Head, Everett Street Jazz Band, Big D's Blues Band, Dirty Redd Band, and Maggie Bell. Headlining this year's festival is Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, a blues, funk and soul band from Austin, Texas.
