Here Are The Statistics Of Caddo Parish’s COVID Deaths

The first official case of COVID-19 in the state of Louisiana was confirmed on March 9th, 2020. The state recorded the first COVID-19 death on March 14th, 2020, at Touro Infirmary Hospital and Medical Center in New Orleans. Since then, that state's death total has climbed towards 2,000.

In Caddo Parish, the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed on March 11th, 2020. That patient would go on to provide some of our first in-depth experiences of dealing with the virus, and recovery.

These are only "confirmed" cases. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has already issued a report confirming that the virus was in Louisiana well before any testing was conducted.

According to the Caddo Coroner's Office, the first death of a Caddo Parish resident related to COVID-19 came on March 24th, at Willis-Knighton Bossier Health Center. The first COVID-19 related death in Caddo Parish came on March 25th, at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. The Caddo Coroner's Office stated the first two area victims were both male, both over 60, and both had serious health conditions prior to the COVID diagnosis.

The first area female death related to COVID-19 came on March 26th. A 35-year-old female with serious underlying health conditions died at Willis-Knighton Medical Center on Greenwood Road.

As of May 4th, 134 Caddo Parish residents have died due to COVID-19 related conditions. The Caddo Coroner's Office says that all 134 victims have had pre-existing serious health conditions.

Additionally, the Caddo Coroner's Office has provided the following statistics on all of the victims:

-The average age of the deceased is 71.8
-The oldest victim was 96
-Only 1.5% of the victims were under 30, and all had pre-existing serious health conditions
-43% of the victims have been African-American males, while only 13% have been white males. 16% were white females, and 28% were African-American females
-57% of the victims have been male, with 43% being female
-10% of the victims were over 90
