Traffic on busy Northgate Drive in Bossier City was backed up for about two hours this afternoon because of a natural gas line break.

The break occurred just before 2:30 when a contractor taking core samples for the State Highway Department hit the gas line, causing it to rupture.  Police and firefighters responded immediately, as did emergency personnel from Centerpoint Energy.  The southbound lanes were closed around Patricia Drive and all traffic was squeezed into the northbound lanes.  The leak was repaired and all of the lanes re-opened around 4:30.  No injuries were reported.
