Flu on Rise in Louisiana – One School Closes for 2 Days
Bad news on the battle with the flu this year. One major drug store is reporting flu activity is 10 times higher than just a year ago and the numbers of cases has doubled in just a week.
At least one Louisiana school is closed because of high flu cases among students and staff.
The Brighton School in Baton Rouge is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday after 25% of students and 20% of teachers are out sick with the flu.
The school has also announced the planned Fall Fest for Friday will be postponed.
What Are the Test Results Showing in Louisiana
Nearly 13% of all flu tests given in Louisiana are positive for the flu while the national average is 4.4% positive.
The CDC reports flu cases are increasing the most in the southeastern part of the country along with south-central states.
The agency is highly recommending you get a flu vaccine before the end of October as a way to protect against the flu.
Vaccination can help prevent the flu and can also help protect you from getting seriously ill if you do still get sick.
If you do get the flu, be sure to ask your doctor for prescription flu antiviral drugs that should be started as soon as possible.
