Florida Man Lands ‘Copter On Capitol Lawn; Security Concerns Raised [VIDEO]

A Florida man has been arrested after flying a small gyrocopter onto the West Front of the US Capitol, prompting police to lock down the building for a time.

Doug Hughes, a 61-year-old mailman, said he wanted to promote campaign finance reform and protest corruption.

Hughes flew a one seat gyrocopter through what is supposed to be a no-fly security zone toward the Capitol from area near the National Mall without being challenged. Witnesses say the machine was very loud and was described as being about the size of a large bicycle.

DC and Capitol Police temporarily closed streets in the area and a bomb squad was called to investigate the machine. Nothing dangerous was found.
