New Orleans residents are already feeling the effects of a storm system that is churning in the Gulf of Mexico. Right now, this is just a large band of showers, but it's already causing some flooding in Downtown New Orleans.

In addition to today's heavy rains, a flash flood warning has been issued for the Mississippi River.
A tropical depression is forming in the Gulf of Mexico and it could strengthen.
There is still a great deal of uncertainty about the eventual path and intensity of this system. Residents are encouraged to continue to pay attention and make preparations as impacts become more clear.
