An out-of-control wildfire in the heart of town kept multiple fire agencies busy into late last evening.  Shreveport Firefighters, with the help of at least five Caddo Fire Districts spent much of yesterday battling a wildfire that threatened homes and businesses in south-central Shreveport.  The wildfire burned across forty acres near East 85th Street and Range Lane, just off bustling Line Avenue.  Property owners in the area were seen digging trenches to protect their homes and businesses, in case the fire made it to their property.

Smoke could be seen from as far as 10 miles away, and police report drivers looking on caused traffic tie up’s on area roadways, including on I-49.  At one point, the smoke was so bad state workers closed the very busy onramp to I-49 north, off 31-32 west.

The fire was brought under control by early evening, and completely contained or put out before midnight, but the cause remains under investigation.
