Fights and Fires Break Out as Another Statue Falls in NOLA
The statue of P.G.T. Beauregard has been in place at the entrance to City Park in New Orleans since 1915, but it's gone today.
NOLA.com reports one demonstrator was assaulted by a pro-monument supporter before the removal happened. NOPD reports at least four people have been arrested. Two of them have been charged with public intoxication and setting fire to some trash.
A legal dispute about the ownership of the land where the Beauregard statue was has been settled and the leaders of the Monumental Task Committee tell reporters they have exhausted all legal remedies to try to block the removal of this statue at City Park.
