Well, at least its not another winter storm, right?

The National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have both provided data to start this week that shows Shreveport will be in for a wet few days. But not just wet, potentially dangerous rainfall.

We're already 4 days out from the potential rainfall, and NOAA is issuing a designation for the Ark-La-Tex. On their Day 4 Excessive Rainfall Outlook, they have our region labeled as "Slight" risk. This might not sound like much, it's listed as a 15% chance, but in the grand scheme of things it is very noteworthy.

Just look at their whole map, across the entire US, there's two risk levels listed...a "Marginal" risk (5%) and the "Slight" risk...

In fact, the whole scale only has three levels. Above "Slight" is "Moderate", which is a 40% chance. Part of the reason that all of their scale options are under 50% is that we're 4 days away from this forecast. So much can still change...the storm can move slightly to the north or south, the timing could be off, or the storm may not develop as strong as they currently anticipate.

But as the National Weather Service at Shreveport is already pointing out, the potential for serious rainfall already exists. As they posted on social media, most of the region could get 2 to 3 inches of rainfall, while the potential storm does have the capability of dropping around 5 inches of rainfall of some areas.

Again, this is a prediction that is 4 days out. So there's a lot that can change over the next few days. But the recipe for a major rainfall event is in place, we just have to see what Mother Nature cooks up.
