With the Red River now predicted to crest at 36.5 feet by Sunday afternoon, the City of Shreveport has decided to cancel some events at venues that would take citizens near the river this weekend.

Facilities that will be closed include Sci-Port, Festival Plaza, Riverview Hall and Riverview Theatre. That, of course, means the Shreveport Farmers' Market or Artists Market won't be in operation tomorrow. A private event with a Corvette club has been relocated.

All Sci-Port operations along the river will end at 5PM today.

"We want to ensure the safety of our citizens," said Mayor Ollie Tyler in a news release. "We are taking every precaution to prevent any incidents that could put citizens in harm's way."

Officials are monitoring flooding conditions and will re-evaluate Sunday the possibility of re-opening downtown facilities.
