It's a bit of an annual tradition for 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Erin McCarty to "write a letter" to her late father, John, and read it on the radio. Erin's dad, who passed away more than thirty years ago, was, in Erin's words, "a gregarious fellow who never met a stranger." In these letters - always amazingly open and personal - McCarty would bring her late father up to date on the happenings in her family and how proud he'd be of his grandsons (Erin's two boys), especially since they'd both become Marines like him. But this year, as she said, "I'm just not feeling it."

So I had to take things into my own hands. "Erin," I said during Friday morning's show, "I know you don't have a letter to your pop this year, but there's a lot of folks who've never heard you talk about him, who don't know what a World War II hero he was. So, for those people, for those listeners, take about sixty seconds and tell us about your father." Well, about six minutes later...
