East Texas man arrested for assault and arson

An east Texas man has been arrested for assault and arson. Harrison County deputies say 21-year-old James Cameron allegedly hit his stepmother, Tonnya Cameron, at her home. She ran into her bedroom, and Mr. Cameron poured used cooking oil throughout the residence and gasoline around the back and lit it.

The step-mom got out of the house when she realized it was on fire. She was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and later taken to Good Shepherd Hospital. The home is a total loss.

James Cameron has been booked into the Harrison County Jail.
