Callers Attempting to Scam East Texas Flood Victims
Someone's calling Caddo Lake-area residents and saying FEMA will make direct deposits to bank accounts and offer monetary assistance. Residents are reminded that there's no FEMA-declared disaster, it's only a state disaster at this point.
FEMA will not make telephone contact with residents and offer assistance without the required documentation filed after the federal disaster is declared.
"Do not give any personal banking information, Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, or any information to a person calling on the telephone and asking you for this information," said Harrison County Sheriff William McCool. "The caller will make every effort to scam you and deplete your bank account and steal your personal information. They are very slick in their conversation, but they are NOT calling you to assist you."
Harrison County Emergency Management Director Thomas Mock is compiling information on flood damage to forward to FEMA. Get more information on State of Texas assistance on the COUNTY WEBSITE.
