The Shreveport Police Department is alerting citizens to a recent phone scam in which individuals have received fraudulent calls requesting money in connection with persons recently booked into the jail facility. SPD emphasizes that these calls are not coming from the department.

Scammers have found ways to make it appear as though these calls originate from legitimate Shreveport Police phone numbers. This tactic, known as "spoofing," is used to make the scam seem more credible.

The Shreveport Police Department reminds all citizens:

· We will never call to request or solicit funds for any reason.

· Under no circumstances should you provide credit card or banking information to anyone claiming to be from SPD over the phone.

If you receive such a call, hang up immediately. Do not engage with the caller or provide any personal information.

We appreciate your vigilance and cooperation in helping to combat fraudulent activity in our community.
