This is the Drunkest Parish in All of Louisiana
SHREVEPORT, LA – Nice to meet up with friends for a relaxing glass of wine or a cocktail after a long day at work. Perhaps a weekend night out with a few adult beverages. It can make for some fun times. But one Louisiana Parish is listed among the drunkest areas in the nation.
Data shows the alcohol beverage industry generates around $70 billion in tax revenue. Now, Insider Monkey has checked out the data and shows which counties in each state are the drunkest.
Insider Monkey looked into data from the County Health Rankings on their excessive drinking rate. In cases where two or more counties had the same rates of excessive drinking, they resorted to using their percentage of driving deaths with alcohol involvement as a tiebreaker.
Insider Monkey's data found that Lafourche Parish is the drunkest parish in all of Louisiana.
Now Lafourche Parish is not the drunkest in the entire country, it did rank in at number 15.
Here’s What Insider Monkey says about the Louisiana Parish:
Excessive Drinking Rate: 24%
“Lafourche Parish is home to the most excessive drinkers in the state of Louisiana, with an excessive drinking rate of 24%. It is followed by Allen, Ascension, Beauregard, Cameron, Lafayette, La Salle, Livingston, St. Tammany, and West Feliciana at joint second with 23%.”
Lafourche Parish is in far south Louisiana where you will find Houma and Thibodeaux. The name of the parish is derived from the French phrase la fourche or in English, the fork; Bayou Lafourche, or Fork Bayou, is a fork of the Mississippi River.
At the 2020 census, the population of Lafourche Parish was 97,557.
