University of Louisiana System President Dr. Jim Henderson talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the current state of Louisiana's universities, the future of TOPS, securing funding for the program and his concerns that it is becoming a budgetary "political football."

Henderson comments on news that TOPS could face funding cuts, saying, "Nobody wants to cut TOPS. It's just figuring out how we're going to get to that place." The former BPCC boss also points out that questions remain as to the actual amount of the budget shortfall, with some estimates as high as $900 million and others in the range of $600 million. Henderson adds, "There are indications of growth in the Louisiana economy that could drive that number lower."
