Dr. Ben Carson announced that he's running for the Republican nomination for President. Carson made the announcement an interview broadcast Sunday during an interview with a Cincinnati television station.

Said Carson:

“I’m willing to be part of the equation and therefore, I’m announcing my candidacy for president of the United States of America. I began to ask myself 'why are people clamoring for me to do this?' I represented a lot of the same thoughts that they have,” Carson told the television station. “I’m not 100 percent sure ‘politics as usual’ is going to save us.”

Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, has never run for office. He came to national prominence in 2013 when he gave a speech at the National Prayer Breakfast in which he was critical of the Obama administration and Obamacare. The President was in attendance t that speech.
