A man has been arrested by DPSO Deputies after erratic behavior and a wrong-way car chase on Interstate 49.

Yesterday, a Patrol Sergeant with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office was on the way to an overturned 18-wheeler crash on I-49 when she observed a white car parked in the median. She called for backup to check on the driver before continuing to the crash scene.

When the Deputy arrived, he found a middle-aged black male sitting in the car completely naked and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Another deputy was requested and showed up shortly after. The situation escalated when the driver suddenly fled in the vehicle, accelerating to approximately 90 miles per hour while traveling the wrong way down the Interstate.

Other deputies responded to assist in the chase, and I-49 was shut down as the pursuit began. One deputy moved ahead to flag and stop traffic, while two others maintained pursuit behind the suspect.

A Patrol Deputy, realized the immediate danger to oncoming traffic, was ultimately able to pull a pit maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop in the median. Louisiana State Police, DeSoto Parish K-9, and other DeSoto deputies arrived on scene. Despite commands to get out of the car, the driver refused, continuing to dance and yell, displaying erratic behavior.

After refusing to comply, K-9 Karen was deployed and successfully removed the suspect from the vehicle. The individual was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation.

The full video from the chase can be seen HERE.

The driver was identified as 49 year-old Tracarlos Audra McNeil from Houston, Texas. Following treatment in a nearby hospital, McNeil was booked into the DeSoto Detention Center on charges of:

– Aggravated Flight from an Officer

– Resisting an Officer

*K9 Karen was not seriously injured in the incident.
