Hundreds of people turned out for the 20th annual Cross Lake Floatilla on Saturday, June 4th.  I've been honored by American Legion Post 14 (the Lowe-McFarlane post) to emcee this event for the past three years.  I've also attended it several times just as a spectator before I was asked to jump in and play an active part.  I can honestly say that I have never seen more boats on the lake for the floatilla than I saw this year.  You can view them here

The day's activities included a charity poker run; a decorated hat contest; a 50-50 cash drawing; the decorated boat competition; and some fantastic plate lunch dinners as well as several cash bars.

Louisiana Crossroads rocked the lake for four hours, from 2 until 6, and in the photo that accompanies this post you will see -- from left to right --  the boys and a girl your mama warned you about.  Starting from the left, there's the brainchild behind Louisiana Crossroads, John "Blinddog" Kavanaugh.  He put this group together in 2002 and they've been rocking venues throughout the Ark-La-Tex ever since.  Next is Chip "Lightnin' Boy" Goodwin, the lovely Marie Romano, Tony "Tony D" Ditcharo, and John "Big John" Chapman.  What you don't see is Mark "The Hammer" Brinkley pounding away on the drums behind Marie and Tony.

All-in-all, it was a fantastic day on the lake -- even though it was hotter than blue blazes, a good time was had by all.  This was the 20th anniversary of the Cross Lake Floatilla and I can't wait until the 21st edition next year.  I just hope that American Legion Post 14 will, once again, ask me to MC the event
