Crawfish Price Update: Prices Slightly Down Around Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, LA - Crawfish prices in north Louisiana have dropped by about $2 dollars a pound over the past couple of weeks. But don't get it twisted, the prices are still very high.
Prices were close to $14 dollars a pound 2 weeks ago, but now prices are ranging from $10 to $12 dollars a pound. If you pay that much for crawfish, what are you getting? You will still find the size of the bugs small. It will probably be another month before we see larger crawfish.
What's the Average Price for Crawfish Now?
We called all of our favorite spots in the Shreveport Bossier area and find many of these places selling boiled crawfish for just under $10 a pound. We also found more spots selling live crawfish this week. The lowest price for live mudbugs we found was $7.50 a pound. And you have to buy them by the sack of 30-40 pounds. So you will still pay a pretty penny to throw a crawfish boil right now.
What Do State Officials Say About Crawfish Season?
Louisiana Ag Secretary Mike Strain tells KEEL News the crawfish industry has been hard hit and many crawfish farmers will probably only see about 25% of the crop they normally have every year. He and Governor Jeff Landry are asking the feds to step in and provide some relief for the farmers.
We don't expect the prices to fall to the levels we saw last year when you could get boiled crawfish for under $3 a pound in May and June. That is not likely to happen this year.
