Council’s Fuller Leads Kings and Gilbert Liquor Store Compromise [VIDEO]
Shreveport City Councilwoman LeVette Fuller talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the council's compromise move at Tuesday's meeting, an agreement that will allow a liquor store to open at the corner of Kings Highway and Gilbert.
The measure, which passed the council by a 6 - 1 vote allow local businessman Bernie Woods to move ahead with construction at the old Circle K site, with the proviso that the store cannot stay open past 9pm.
A number of residents of that neighborhood, including Oscar winning filmmaker, artist and writer William Joyce, strongly objected to Wood's plan. A petition to block the development had been signed by more than a thousand and more than two dozen spoke against the plan at the council meeting.
