Council Seeks More Control Over Money at This Week’s Meetings [VIDEO]
Shreveport City Councilwoman LeVette Fuller talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright about the issues the council will be tackling at this week's work session and regular meeting.
The first term councilwoman first addresses the proposal to require council approval of any city contract over $500,000. The legislation, originally the brainchild of Councilman John Nickelson. "Now John's original was $100,000 with an amendment from Councilman (James) Flurry for $500,000, to review contracts that are not subject to bid law." Fuller also brings up the city's recent insurance scandal and changes the council hope to make in checking the mayor's power. "Right now, insurance policies are not subject to RFP (Request for Proposal). The administration was completely within their power to do what they did, but we've also worked on changing that. We want to move forward with an RFP process for insurance, as well."
