After two years of lockdowns, shutdowns, masks and restrictions, it's actually exciting to be able to enjoy live entertainment again.  As a theatre performer, it's been extremely frustrating to try to have rehearsals while wearing a mask.  Or going to a symphony performance and trying to enjoy the music while sitting in the house wearing a mask. Personally, I can't breathe while wearing a covering over my mouth and nose.

All that being said, to say this: I don't take for granted now the abiltity to be able to walk through Shreveport's Festival Plaza and truly enjoy the Red River Revel or Mudbug Madness... even standing in line at Subway and not getting leers and glares because I'm not wearing a mask.

So if you're a fan of live theatre, (and why wouldn't you be?), Shreveport has a vibrant theatre community presenting a multitude of options for you to enjoy.

Shreveport Little Theatre

Shreveport Little Theatre has a very special place for me because it was my first introduction to community theatre going back to 1976 in the musical "110 in the Shade," where I was in the chorus, and a "featured dancer." Yeah, that was MANY years (and pounds) ago. But if you want to see a live show in the longest continuing running community theatre in the country, you can check out the latest show, "Popcorn Falls" this weekend. It will run for two weeks.  They also have shows lined up for their 100th consecutive season, including their Christmas Show "Honkey Tonk Angels," "Over the River and Through the Woods," and "Driving Miss Daisy."

East Bank Theatre

East Bank Theatre in the East Bank district of the old downtown Bossier is opening Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit" on November 4th. This 3 Act comedy runs through November 13th.

Centenary College

Marjorie Lyons Playhouse is another theatre with a rich history of incredible local productions. It was almost another "community theatre" for years, before transitioning back into more of a theatre program for Centenary College.  Productions like "Death of a Salesman," "Biloxi Blues," and "Les Miserables" have all been performed on their local stage.  They are currently presenting "GODZOOLA, An Evening of One-Act Plays"  October 20-23, 2022.

Bossier Parish Community College

You can also find quality productions at BPCC's theater program, led by local  theatre legend Ray Scott Crawford. They are currently preparing for their latest production, "Dracula," which runs October 13th-23rd.

If you've never attended a local theatre production, I highly encourage you to try it out.  I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
