Investigators are trying to find out what happened to an inmate who died at Caddo Correctional Center this week. The Caddo Sheriff's Office says the inmate was found unresponsive Tuesday and later pronounced deceased.

Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Released This Information About the Death:

The inmate participated in scheduled recreation from 7:10 a.m. until 9 a.m., then returned to his cell. At 10:18 a.m., deputies opened the cell door for meal service and were informed by the inmate's cellmate that he had attempted to wake the inmate for lunch but found him unresponsive.

EMS crews from the Shreveport Fire Department responded to the jail and immediately transported the inmate to Willis-Knighton North on Greenwood Road. The inmate was pronounced dead at the hospital. The initial investigation shows no signs of foul play. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office following its investigation.

The inmate's identity will be released by the coroner's office once the next of kin have been notified.

This incident remains under investigation.
