Shreveport Detectives have charged 20-year-old Trevonte J Brown with one count of Second Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile in connection with the shooting of the 3-year-old on Bernice Circle. After an investigation, violent crimes investigators learned that Brown left a loaded firearm unattended at the residence. The child was able to grab and discharge the firearm, nearly killing the toddler.

On February 3, 2021, just after 9:00 p.m., Shreveport Police responded to a residence in the 700 block of Bernice Circle relative to a shooting. Officers located a 3-year-old child that had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.  The child was immediately transported to Ochsner LSU Health with what was considered life-threatening injuries.

Violent Crimes and Crime scene investigators worked tirelessly throughout the night conducting interviews and collecting evidence to piece together how this incident occurred. This is still an active and ongoing investigation. The child remains in critical condition.
