The Dog Park Alliance Board of Directors and SPAR representatives will meet with Shreveport-based landscape architect Lloyd Overdyke to go over the design for the dog park at the Stoner Avenue Boat Launch area.

"We're very excited," Dog Park Alliance Director Cynthia Keith told KEEL News. "I know he's got some plans in mind. And we have been reaching out as a Dog Park Alliance through Facebook and through public events to see what the public is wanting in the very first dog park."

Keith said a lot of suggestions have come in already. Most people are wanting separated sides for large and small dogs. Others want a water feature that the dogs can swim in, but water fountains dogs can drink from are already in the plans.

"Some would like some agility equipment in there. There's a suggestion of a walking path, because people use it as exercise for themselves and their pets," she said. "A memorial area has been suggested more than once. We know that will be included in there, we've just have to come up with what all it's going to look like."

Keith is saying she can almost promise that by this time next year, residents will be able to take their pets to the dog park.

"Both mayoral candidates have promised to put it on the fast track," she said. "So we're hoping sooner, rather than later."

Keith adds that this has been a long road, but it's been worth it. The meeting is December 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Querbes Park & Community Center. It is a closed meeting, but Keith said public meetings will be held later.
