UPDATE: Active Shooter Reported at Naval Air Station Pensacola
3 people are reported dead following an active shooting at a Florida Navy Base.
An active shooter was reported Friday morning at the Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida, with the base shutting its gates and issuing a shelter-in-place as authorities descended on the scene. Fox News reports the shooter is dead.
"Both gates of NASP are currently secured due to reports of an active shooter," the base posted on its Facebook account.
A spokesperson for the Escambia County Sheriff's Office told the Pensacola News Journal that law enforcement now is trying to eliminate the threat.
Scanner traffic overheard by the newspaper indicated that at least ten people are being sent to local hospitals for treatment.
A spokesman for the base also told the Pensacola News Journal that the incident was first reported around 7 a.m. Friday.
