Ladies, we've come a long way, but we've still got a ways to go!
10,000 Women Louisiana is all about the power we have when we band together and make our voices heard and work towards equality for women.
I'm not what you would call a stereotypical feminist. I'm a girly girl for the most part even though I'll get out there and work as hard as a man. But I'm also for supporting and uplifting my sisters and we haven't achieved true equality yet. You've probably already heard that Louisiana can be a rough place for women to live and the stats don't lie. Louisiana ranks 41st in the country when it comes to women's rights/equality. Don't believe me? Read the study by Wallethub.com here.
Don't get me wrong here. I'm NOT a fan of entitlements. I think movements for things like 'menstrual leave' are a little silly and I don't think that just because I have ovaries, I should be paid the same as a man in a similar position. I want to be paid the same BECAUSE I EARNED IT! But there's more than equal pay at stake here. It's about kids, family, healthcare, and education. Here's what the folks at 10,000 Women Louisiana have to say:
By strengthening statewide and regional networks of informed and engaged women leaders and attracting new women to advocacy, the debate can be focused on issues of long-term significance to Louisiana—improving education and healthcare, reducing poverty, and addressing the critical needs of children as well as other social justice issues. We believe that 10,000 Women can be a powerful force in the future direction of the state.
