Bosses at cable network TV Land have announced they'll no longer show reruns of the 80's syndicated series "Dukes of Hazzard" because of controversy surrounding the Confederate flag painted on the roof of the show's 1969 Dodge Charger, the General Lee.

The move follows a decision by Warner Bros. to stop marketing any Dukes merchandise featuring the flag, which has come under media scrutiny and criticism since white supremacist Dylann Roof’s murder of nine members at a black church in South Carolina last month.

Dukes co-starBen Jones, spoke out against the controversy surrounding the show and the show's vehicle:

"That flag on top of the General Lee made a statement that the values of the rural south were the values of courage and family and good times. Activists and politicians are vilifying Southern culture and heritage as being bigoted and racist. We know that is not the case. And we know that in Hazzard County there was never any racism.”
