SHREVEPORT, LA – Millions of Americans live alone and many of them are lonely. The pandemic only made that problem worse. More and more folks are isolated with very little contact with other people. This is especially true for older residents who are retired.

24/7 WallStreet.com has released a list of the loneliest cities in the U.S. and two Louisiana communities are on that list.

This report says 13 of the cities are in the South. The Midwest has 25 cities on the list while 7 are in the west. 4 cities in the northeast show up on the list.  In the Midwest, 6 cities in Ohio are on the list. That’s the state with the highest number of cities with lonely residents.

One of the reasons cities land on this list is because of lower household incomes which has been seriously impacted by inflation.

The two Louisiana cities on this list are:

Shreveport Bossier City checks in at #31.

    • Monthly gross rent:$1,148 (#143 of 385 metros)
    • Bachelor’s degree attainment rate:7%% (#141 of 385 metros)
    • Median household income:$61,602 (#270 of 385 metros)

    In our region, Texarkana is one of the loneliest cities in the nation, checking in at #6.

    The loneliest city in the nation is Washington D.C.
