Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert had a laugh on “The Colbert Report” Wednesday night (April 23) over Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory’s push to legalize chicken boxing.

Earlier this month, Sen. Guillory (R-La.) called chicken boxing “a legitimate sport” in a failed attempt to allow the sport to remain legal. The sport is popular in some portions of rural Louisiana.

Animal rights activists claimed that chicken boxing is a way of avoiding cockfighting laws. Guillory announced on the Senate floor April 7 that chicken boxing involved “no blood, no knives, no cruelty.”

Skip to the 2:28 mark to hear Colbert address the chicken boxing situation.
